As you might be knowing, Google Chrome has a nice audio indicator for tabs which produce sounds or music. If you open a YouTube video in some tab, that tab will have a speaker icon. Today we will see how to mute all tabs at once using only the keyboard.
Tip: Mute several tabs at once in Google Chrome.
This is quite useful, however, this method does not offer any option to mute tabs using the keyboard.
For keyboard users who prefer using hotkeys to operate faster, a special extension called Mute Tab Shortcuts is available for Chrome. It offers much needed functionality which Google should have included in the browser.
The extension adds a number of hotkeys you can use to mute the current tab or all tabs. These hotkeys are as follows:
- Alt + Shift + M - mute the current (active) tab.
- Alt + Shift + , - mute all open tabs.
- Alt + Shift + . - unmute all tabs.
To get it working, do the following:
- Enable the tab muting flag as mentioned HERE.
- Next, install the Mute Tab Shortcuts extension from the Chrome Web Store.
