Google Unveils 10 New AI Features in Chrome

Google has rolled out ten AI-powered capabilities integrated directly into Chrome. These updates aim to improve daily browsing, enhance security, and automate routine tasks in a fully automated way, all without requiring users to leave their current tab. Here are the details.

Gemini Working as an In-Browser Assistant

Chrome now includes Gemini, an AI chatbot accessible via a button in the upper right corner. Users can ask natural language questions about the current page or reference content from other open tabs. Gemini suppored has been launched for English-speaking users on macOS and Windows in the U.S.

Let Gemini Act on Your Behalf

Assign tasks to Gemini, and it will execute them interactively across websites. For instance, after viewing a recipe, ask Gemini to purchase the ingredients from a specific store. It locates items, adds them to your cart, and completes checkout — with step-by-step explanations and user intervention options. This feature will go live in the coming months.

Compare, Summarize, and Retrieve with Ease

Gemini can synthesize information from multiple open tabs. Planning a trip? It compiles flight, hotel, and event details into a unified plan. Need to find a past page? Describe what you saw — “cherry pie recipe,” for example — and Gemini identifies the relevant tab from your history.

Seamless Integration with Google Services

Without switching tabs, users can now interact with Google Calendar, YouTube, and Google Maps through Gemini. It is capable to schedule meetings, pull up directions, or search for videos, and it can take into account the current browsing context.

Smart Address Bar

Pressing Tab in the address bar activates AI-powered search. It supports questions in plain language, receive synthesized answers from top sources, and follow up with clarifying queries. This feature arrives by month’s end for U.S. users, with global rollout to follow.

Soon, the address bar will also suggest relevant questions based on the page you’re viewing without typing any term or query.

Enhanced Protection

Chrome’s Enhanced Protection mode now uses the Gemini Nano model to scan pages locally. It currently flags sites offering malware downloads. Future updates will target fake virus alerts and fraudulent prize promotions.

Smarter Notifications and Permissions

AI now evaluates notification requests and permission prompts (like camera or microphone access) based on site quality and user behavior. Suspicious or low-value alerts appear less intrusively, with clear options to unsubscribe or deny.

Automatic Password Updates for Compromised Accounts

If Chrome detects a compromised password during login, it warns you and offers to replace it. With your approval, it generates a strong password and auto-fills change forms on supported sites. Those include Spotify, Coursera, Duolingo, and H&M.
