A few days ago Google had issued a statement that they stop releasing new Chrome builds due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Today, the company has announced that Chrome and Chrome OS will continue receiving updates.

The company has revealed an updated schedule for releases.

  • Chrome 83 will be released three weeks earlier than the original schedule. It will include all Chrome 82 features.
  • Chrome 82 is cancelled for all channels.
  • The Canary, Dev and Beta channels have or will resume this week. Chrome 83 is moving to Dev,  Chrome 81 will be in Beta.
  • The Stable channel will get updates next week with security and critical fixes for Chrome 80, followed by the release of Chrome 81 the week of April 7, and Chrome 83 six weeks later, in mid-May.

Google is going to share more details about a timeline for Chrome 84 in a future update.

  1. Good to see Chrome 2020-03-27 under Windows 10 is already updated to Version 81.0.4044.83 (Official Build) beta (64-bit). Maybe things are getting back to normal, but I suspect it is too soon to assume that.
