Firefox 97 released, here are the changes

Mozilla has released Firefox 97, a new version of their very own web browser which is the last non-Chromium based app on the market. This is a minor update. Its most notable changes are an extended set of Colorways themes and Windows 11 style scrollbars.

What’s new in Firefox 97

Since version 94, Firefox includes a set of lightweight themes “Colorways”. What they do is apply a color to the browser frame, address bar and new tab page background. After installing or updating the browser, the user is prompted to pick such a theme to apply a fresh style to the app.

Firefox 97 includes updated Colorways themes with more adjusted colors that will replace the former set. You can later switch or disable the current Colorways appearance using the Add-ons page of Firefox.

Another change made to the appearance of the browser is support for Windows 11 style scrollbars. Other popular browsers, including Chrome and Edge, have supported this change for a while, and now Firefox is following suit.

Besides the above changes, there is a good pack of changes for web devs. They can now use the SVG d attribute to define a path to be drawn, specify the reason for an abort signal using AbortController.abort(). If you are an addon developer, you might be interested in improvements made to cookie lookup. The cookieStoreId value in tabs.query now supports an array of strings.

You can learn more about this release and download the installer from this official page.

  1. WebKit is also available. I don’t know if it’s available for Windows. For Mac and Linux, it’s available anyway. However, I do not think it is that good. I tried Epiphany a while ago. A lot of things that didn’t work as it should.

I’m going to have a big problem if Firefox decides to shut down. It’s the only browser I like. I’ve gone through all the browsers. I think all Chromium-based browsers feel the same :/

Sorry about poor English. It’s not my language ;)
