Firefox 48 beta is out with multiprocess mode enabled by default

Earlier, we noted that developers are going to enable multiprocess mode, known as process-per-tab or electrolysis (e10s) for 1% of users who do not use add-ons. Unlike the release version, Firefox 48 beta comes with electrolysis enabled for everyone.

By having electrolysis enabled for all beta users, Firefox developers will be able to test it widely and fix many issues before it reaches those 1% of users without add-ons in the stable branch. This should make the electrolysis migration process more smooth and painless. Users and add-on developers can test their extensions for compatibility with multiprocess mode.

Other interesting changes in Firefox 48 include:

• The address bar search history and search suggestions now use the whole browser window for the drop down list. Earlier, it was limited to the address bar width:
• Improved stability and quality of WebRTC connections.
• Refined bookmark interface comes with "Unsorted bookmarks" renamed to "Other bookmarks".
• Improved font rendering under Linux.
• Added the ability to customize the main toolbar using only keyboard shortcuts.
• The improved WebExtensions API will allow loading Chrome extensions without modification using debug mode. Improved compatibility with Chrome add-ons.
• The about:debugging page got the ability to reload extensions:
• Lots of changes for developers.
