Firefox 110 is out, here are the changes

Mozilla has updated the stable branches of the Firefox browser with new releases. The Stable channel now hosts Firefox 110, and Firefox ESR is now at version 102.8.0. Firefox 111 has entered beta and will be released on March 14.

You can download Firefox from the official website. Alternatively, you can navigate to the https://releases.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/110.0/ link and pick the browser that matches your operating system, language and platform. Files in there are organized into subfolders by a platform, UI language, and include full (offline) installers.

Here are the key changes in Firefox 110.

What's new in Firefox 110

New features

  • Firefox can now import bookmarks, browsing history and passwords from Opera, Opera GX and Vivaldi browsers. Previously this was limited to  Edge, Chrome and Safari.
  • On Linux and macOS platforms, the browser now uses GPU acceleration to speed up Canvas2D rasterization.
  • Also, on all supported PC platforms WebGL now has improved performance.
  • Provided the ability to clear fields with dates and times by pressing Cmd+Backspace and Cmd+Delete on macOS and Ctrl+Backspace on Linux and Windows.
  • The built-in Colorways add-on that ships a collection of color themes to change the appearance of the content area, panels, and tab row is no longer part of the browser. But you can still install it manually. Look for the Colorways add-on on addons.mozilla.org.
  • In Windows, sandbox isolation of processes interacting with the GPU is enabled.
  • On Windows 10 and 11 Firefox now includes hardware video decoding on non-Intel GPUs to improve video playback performance and upscaling.
  • Also, in all supported  Windows version, the user can block third-party modules from embedding into Firefox. This can prevent archivers, viewers, and anti-viruses from injecting their components into the browser and slowing it down. For that, there is a built-in page "about:third-party" to see and manage external modules.
  • The built-in PDF viewer now has smooth scaling.
  • Several CSS engine improvements.
  • The User-Agent line is temporarily frozen on version 109 the Browser ID part of the User Agent header, as the presence of the "rv:110" substring falls under the "rv:11" mask used by some major sites to detect IE 11 and display an end-of-support notification. This workaround will be removed in Firefox 120 .

Firefox on Android

On devices with Android 13+, Firefox supports app icons that are tied to a theme or background image color.

It also makes it easier to select multiline text blocks.

Security fixes

In addition to fixes and new features, Firefox 110 closes 25 vulnerabilities. 16 vulnerabilities are marked as dangerous, of which 8 vulnerabilities (CVE-2023-25745 and CVE-2023-25744) are related to work with memory. There are buffer overflows and access to already freed memory areas. These issues can potentially lead to malicious code being executed when specially designed pages are opened.
