Enable Title Bar in Firefox

Firefox

As you may know, Firefox 57 comes with a new user interface, known as "Photon". It is intended to provide a more modern, sleek feel that’s consistent across multiple platforms. It replaced the previous "Australis" UI and features new menus, a new customization pane and tabs without rounded corners. By default, Firefox comes without a title bar. This design solution is intended to save space at the top and give more room for opened web sites.  It is possible to enable the title bar if you are not happy with the default look of the browser. Here is how.

Firefox 57 is a huge step forward for Mozilla. The browser comes with a new user interface, codenamed "Photon", and features a new engine "Quantum". It was a difficult move for developers, because with this release, the browser drops support for XUL-based add-ons completely! All of the classic add-ons are deprecated and incompatible, and only a few have moved to the new WebExtensions API. Some of the legacy add-ons have modern replacements or alternatives. Unfortunately, there are plenty of useful add-ons which have no modern analogs.

The Quantum engine is all about parallel page rendering and processing. It is built with a multi-process architecture for both CSS and HTML processing, which makes it more reliable and faster.

The title bar is at the top of Firefox. It includes the Firefox icon in the top left corner, and the full title of the currently opened tab.

The title bar is not enabled by default in the Firefox browser in order to reduce UI clutter. If you like, you can enable it easily.

To enable the title bar in Firefox, do the following.

  1. Click on the hamburger menu button (the last button on the right in the toolbar).
  2. The main menu will appear. Click on Customize.
  3. The Customize mode will be enabled. At the bottom, find and enable the check box Title bar.

Here is how it looks.

Once you enable the title bar, the dark-blue color will disappear from the brower's window frame. It will follow your color preferences, e.g. the window frame color in Windows 10 and make the app look native in the OS.

That's it.

  1. I’ve had Firefox go into “full screen, hide the title bar, menu bar, and tabs” several times in the last few days. (I think it’s because I have a new keyboard and I keep bumping things.)

HOW DO I MAKE THESE SURPRISES GO AWAY? I don’t want this to ever happen again.

    Thank you.
