Every month, Microsoft publishes a feedback summary for the Edge browser, highlighting the most notable ideas and suggestions. The company uses those posts to notify users about changes and new features coming soon (or not coming soon or ever) to Microsoft Edge.

In the feedback summary post for December 2021, Microsoft revealed its plans to let users change where the browser keeps vertical tabs. In the current version of Microsoft Edge, enabling vertical tabs moves the tab strip from the upper to the left side of the window. Some users want to place vertical tabs on the right side, and Microsoft is looking forward to implementing that.
Vertical tabs in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft is not ready to provide specific dates when users can expect the upgraded vertical tabs to arrive in the Edge browser. For now, developers have only changed the feedback status from "Under Review" to "Planned."
That means it might take a while for Microsoft to implement, test, polish, and ship the promised feature. According to the post, the Edge dev team is evaluating different ways to implement the idea.
Microsoft has provided updates on other feedback and ideas besides letting users know about the upcoming feature upgrade for vertical tabs in Edge.
For example, the company says it does not plan to introduce a transparent theme, mouse gestures for common actions (you may want to check out Vivaldi for that), or an option to sign in to the browser with a Google account.
Also, do not expect Microsoft to bring back the reading list feature from Edge Legacy or any significant UI redesigns.
Finally, Microsoft says it works on bringing more extensions to the store, reducing CPU and memory strain, improving scrolling smoothness, and making the browser overall snappier.
