Microsoft is testing a new feature in the Canary version of the Edge browser. If the user has both PWA and the Store version of the same web app, the browser can automatically launch the Store app instead of the installed PWA.
The new behavior is disabled by default. It can be enabled with a new flag, edge://flags/#edge-webapp-storeapp-migration
. The flag is exclusive to Windows, most likely Windows 10.
The change is currently available in Edge Canary 88.0.692.0. If you have both a Web app (PWA) and its Store counterpart installed, you can enable the flag and see how it works e.g. for URL interception.
By enabling the above flag by default, Microsoft will be able to popularize and promote apps from the Store over PWAs installed within the browser, prioritizing the Store version of the same web app.

Note: Microsoft has started delivering Microsoft Edge to users of Windows via Windows Update. The update is provisioned for users of Windows 10 version 1803 and above, and replaces the classic Edge app once installed. The browser, when delivered with KB4559309, makes it impossible to uninstall it from Settings. Check out the following workaround: Uninstall Microsoft Edge If Uninstall Button is Grayed Out
