Disable the notification Disable apps to help improve performance in Windows 10

In Windows 10, the updated Action Center displays a number of notifications related to the operating system's performance. One of these notifications is a suggestion to disable apps to help improve performance. It suggests you to remove some app from startup.

Windows 10 startup notificationThe suggestion is pretty useful for the average user who has installed a bunch of apps which load at startup. The average user no idea how to prevent apps from starting automatically. If you have many apps which start with Windows, you can review the list and disable the apps you do not need as described here:

However, if you want those apps to load at startup and need them every time you sign in to Windows 10, you'll be quickly annoyed by the Windows 10 suggestion.

Here is how to disable the notification Disable apps to help improve performance in Windows 10.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools.
  3. Under Maintenance, find the notification "Disable apps to help improve performance" and click the link under the notification which says "Turn off messages about startup apps".disable startup

You are done. This is the only working way to get rid of this message in Windows 10, because the appropriate setting in Maintenance options is greyed out by default:startup apps grayed out

An alternative way using Task Scheduler

There is a special scheduled task in Windows 10, which scans startup entries and shows a notification to the user if there are too many startup entries. If you disable it, you will never see the mentioned notification.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools.
  3. Click the shortcut Task Scheduler:Windows 10 administrative tools - task scheduler
  4. In the Task Scheduler, go to the following folder:
    Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience
  5. Right click the task named StartupAppTask and select 'Disable' from the context menu.disable task

The same can be done using the command prompt. Some users may find this method more useful. It can be done as follows:

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Type or paste the following command:
    schtasks /change /tn "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\StartupAppTask" /disable

    disable task cmd

That's it.
