With Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft has added a new feature to Universal Apps - now the apps can have badges on their taskbar buttons. This feature is an additional way to notify the user about something new requiring his attention. The feature works similarly to classic Destkop apps: just like Skype for Desktop draws a badge to show unread events count, the Universal app, "Mail" bundled with Windows 10 can show you the number of unseen new messages. If you would like to disable taskbar badges for Windows 10 apps, here is how it can be done.
How to disable taskbar badges for apps in Windows 10
To disable taskbar badges in Windows 10, you need to turn off the appropriate option in the Settings app. Here is how.
- Open Settings.
- Go to the following Settings page:
Personalization\Taskbar
- On the right, find the option called Show badges on taskbar buttons. To disable taskbar badges for apps, you need to turn off this setting.
Once this is done, the badges will disappear.
That's it! If you change your mind, the badges can be re-activated using the same option.
