A new snapshot of the innovative Vivaldi browser comes with an enhanced tab muting feature. Vivaldi 1.10.867.3 represents the upcoming version 1.10 which is currently under development. Let's see what has changed.
Vivaldi now allows customizing thumbnails you see on the Speed Dial page. The user can assign a custom image for both, the web page thumbnail and the folders you created.
To replace speed dial thumbnails with custom images in Vivaldi, do the following.
Open a new tab page to see your current Speed Dial bookmarks. Hover the mouse pointer over a thumbnail to see additional controls. In the bottom left corner of the thumbnail, a new button with a plus sign will appear.
Alternatively, you can right-click the thumbnail and click the "Select custom thumbnail" context menu command.
Click it to change the thumbnail image. Browse for an image you want to assign instead of the picture automatically created by the browser.
The same can be done for Speed Dial folders.
To restore the default thumbnail, click the reload button on the bottom right corner of the thumbnail.
The official announcement describes this feature as follows:
Let’s say the thumbnail of the website you’ve added to your Speed Dial has way too many small details that make it difficult to see what’s inside. Or maybe you simply don’t like the look of that thumbnail and would like to replace it with a picture of a kitten. All you need to do now is right-click on the thumbnail or use the small (+) at the bottom left corner of the Speed Dial and choose "Select Custom Thumbnail" from the dropdown menu to replace the thumbnail with a custom image. You can even have an animated GIF there if you like – the choice is yours!
To try out this feature, you need to install Vivaldi 1.10.867.3, which is a developer build of version 1.10 as of this writing.
- Windows: 32-bit for Windows 7+ | 64-bit for Windows 7+
- macOS: 10.9+
- Linux DEB: 64-bit
- Linux RPM: 64-bit
This release also comes with a bug fix, which preserves your custom thumbnail images from being replaced with the default one, when you press F5 on Speed Dial.

Speaking of images, they’ve been broken in your RSS feed for a long time.
I know. It is my plan to fix them.
At first, I was thinking Vivaldi would re-create the real Opera features, but its development team is only focusing on quite useless features like this!
You are reading my mind. These are very minor changes. Most likely bells and whistles.
To create features like VPN (infrastructure) one needs good financing.
As Opera is owned by Chinese investors, they have the necessary financial supports, which seems Vivaldi lacks.
Though, i think they just have different goals. So, it’s not right to compare them directly.
Also Chrome doensn’t have this feature out of the box at all, but in #1 in browser market.
