You may remember Continuum, a feature that allowed the user to seamlessly switch between the touch UI and the mouse/keyboard centric UI depending on which peripherals are attached to the PC/tablet and whether it is docked or undocked. It was created primarily for Windows 10 Mobile. Now, bits of this idea appear in Android 12L released for Surface Duo.In the future, Microsoft wants to integrate the feature with the Windows 365 Cloud PC service. This should have made the Surface Duo even more interesting to enterprise users.

The development of the feature does not appear to be complete yet. To access it right now, you have to enable the Developer mode. There you also have to turn on the "force desktop mode" option. Here's how t can be done.
Enable desktop mode in Android 12L released for Surface Duo
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to the "About phone" section.
- Tap the Build number several times to turn on developer mode. A notification will appear at the bottom of the screen after you enable it.
- Go to the "System" page of settings.
- Select "For Developers".
- On the page that opens, find and enable the "force desktop mode" option.
Android 12L for Surface Duo was released a few days ago and comes with an updated notification shade UI, Settings app, and other system components. Everything now has Fluent Design and feels more like Windows 11. There's also a new pen menu. Finally, it includes all the key improvements added to Android 12L except the taskbar.
