Cinnamon got vertical panel support

Developers of the Linux Mint operating system have announced that their flagship desktop environment, Cinnamon, has finally got support for a vertical panel. Now the user can place the taskbar vertically or mix vertical and horizontal panels.

With recent changes, Cinnamon is able to render panel applets properly when panels are in vertical mode. See the following screenshot:

Panels can be moved freely to another orientation if desired, and the panel edit facility can be used to move applets around within or between panels.

Horizontal and vertical panels can be mixed if that's your preference. Here is a screenshot of a horizontal and vertical panel used together.

However, if you are using a 3rd party applet, it might not be displayed as expected and should be updated to adapt for both horizontal and vertical orientations.
