Microsoft explains that the intention behind this move is to create better web compatibility for customers and less fragmentation for web developers. Microsoft has already made a number of contributions to the Chromium project, helping to port the project to Windows on ARM. The company promises to contribute more to the Chromium project.
Chromecast is a line of digital media players developed by Google. The devices, usually designed as small USB dongles, allows the user with a smartpone or computer to render Internet-streamed video and audio on a high-definition TV with help of mobile and desktop web apps. Also, the Google Chrome web browser and many Chromium based browsers like Opera and Vivaldi allow streaming web content the same way.
Starting in build 76.0.167.0, the Chromecast feature is available in Microsoft Edge Chromium by default. You will find the command 'More Tools > Cast media to device' in the main menu of the browser.
