Yet another change is on the way to Chrome users. Google is updating the browser to show error codes on its 'Aw, Snap!' crash pages. With this change, you will no longer need to browse online for the error description and clearly see what has actually happened with a crashed tab.
You can check out how the crash page is currently looking in your Chrome by entering the following into the address bar:
chrome://kill
This will simulate a tab crash. See the following screenshot:
The upcoming change (which is already in Chrome Canary), will add one of the error codes, depending on the reason of the crash. It will look as follows:
Google has a hardcoded list of such error codes HERE in the Chromium source code, so interested users can check them out.
After Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge is expected to get the same improvements. Also, other Chromium-based browsers might adopt this feature and make their error pages more clear to the end user.
However, there is a catch. Certain error codes can only be useful to Chromium devs. Imagine if it displays something like STATUS_FLOAT_MULTIPLE_TRAPS
? You can't obviously do anything against it.
