Edge will not play non-important Flash animations in Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Microsoft is working to improve the Edge browser, which is the default browser in Windows 10 instead of Internet Explorer. Microsoft is trying to make it more useful for the end user. With every major update for Windows 10, it is getting more features. Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which was formerly known as "Redstone" will bring to Edge not only extensions support but also the ability to have more control over Flash animations.
new-edge-extensionsAccording to Microsoft, now Edge users will also be able to have better control over Flash content on a web page.

By default, the Edge browser will not play Flash-based ads. Instead, it will require click-to-activate confirmation from the end user. However, to not annoy the user, the browser will detect the main Flash content which is central to the page. That content will not be blocked.

This should make the browsing experience more clean. While ads and annoying media, which are both usually located on the sides of the web page will be blocked automatically, the main content like video or animation will be played as usual. This will also help save battery on portable devices, as Flash is known to cause significant resource usage.

Over time, Flash ads and media are going to be replaced with HTML5-based ones, which the new Edge feature does not yet affect.

Actually, the idea behind this feature is not unique or new. Google Chrome already has the feature to block unnecessary animations and media.

Do you welcome this change? Will you give Edge a chance to be your primary web browser once it gets these features?
