Google is currently testing parallel downloads in the Play Store, allowing users to download two applications simultaneously. Also, by enabling specific flags in version 40.0.13 of Google Play Store on a rooted Android device, you can unlock the parallel downloads for up to 5 apps.
This allows for up to five applications to be downloaded at the same time when the flag is activated, speeding up the installation process. However, there are limitations, as the feature may not work under App & Device Management.
There is no official release date for this feature to the general public yet. For rooted devices, you can manually add or enable the necessary flag using the GMS Flags app.
Package - com.google.android.finsky.regular
Flags - InstallQueue__enable_su_parallel_install
Previous reports and screenshots posted on Reddit indicate that this is not the first time the company has considered such a possibility. Reddit has many old posts and screenshots showing the Play Store interface from 3-4 years ago, featuring parallel install functionality. However, this feature never reached all users. It appears that Google is now working to bring one of the most requested features to everyone - simultaneous or parallel downloads.
