As you may remember, Microsoft is currently working on a set of new colorful icons for Windows 10. Yesterday, the icons were introduced officially. The announcement features 100 app icons, including a brand new Windows logo.
As we now know, these colorful icons are designed for Windows 10X, a special edition of the OS for Surface Neo. All the icons are following the modern Fluent Design. Surface Neo is Microsoft's very own foldable PC, which comes with a detachable keyboard, Surface Slim Pen inking. It will run Windows 10X. It will feature two 9” screens connected by a 360° hinge.
Jon Friedman, corporate vice president of design and research at Microsoft, wrote an announcement on Medium, revealing a new wave of icon redesigns. According to him, Microsoft pursuits a goal to develop a flexible and open design system to span a range of contexts, to signal innovation and change while maintaining familiarity for customers.
Also, Microsoft is trying to resolve Windows icon inconsistency, as it includes many icons from previous Windows versions, including Windows XP, Windows 2000, and even Windows 95. Certain icons, while being modern, just don't fit the design style of the OS.
Among the new icons you can spot a new Windows logo, featuring an individual blue color gradient for each block.
It is worth mentioning that the new Edge icon perfectly fits into this new icon set.
