Microsoft Edge 116 brings with it a desktop sidebar

Microsoft is releasing Edge 116 to the stable branch. The browser version 116.0.1938.54 brings with it a detachable sidebar that remains always visible on the Desktop. Besides, Edge 116 introduces Edge for Business, a special version of the browser with enterprise features and options.

What's new in Edge 116

Microsoft Edge for Business

This version of the browser includes built-in enterprise-grade security, improved management, and support for artificial intelligence. All this allows you to maximize productivity and security, as well as implement the separation of work (Microsoft Entra ID) and personal (MSA account) browser space with automatic switching when you go to certain sites. All users signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID (aka Azure Active Directory) will automatically receive Microsoft Edge for Business and see an updated browser icon indicating that the open window belongs to a workspace. Detailed information can be found on the official website .

Edge Desktop Sidebar

To pin the Edge sidebar to the Windows desktop, click on the corresponding icon in the header of the sidebar of the browser. This change will allow you to work side by side with Edge and any other Windows applications. The sidebar provides easy access to advanced AI tools and various web services.

More features and settings will be added in the future. Administrators can control the feature's availability with the StandaloneHubsSidebarEnabled policy .

New Policies

ThrottleNonVisibleCrossOriginIframesAllowed - Enables suppression of invisible cross-origin iframes.

Deprecated Policies

EventPathEnabled - Re-enables the Event.path API.
