Windows 11 gets a QR code generator for the Share dialog

Starting in Windows 11 Build 22635.3420 (Beta), you can now generate QR codes for share URLs right in the Windows Share dialog. By default, this new feature is only enabled for a small number of insiders. It is a gradual feature rollout, but you can override it and get it working right now.

Using the system Share pane, users can now create QR codes for URLs and links to cloud files directly from the Share window, simplifying the process of sharing web pages and files. To access this feature, simply click the Share button in the toolbar and select the Windows Share. There will be a new button.

Additionally, to prevent the Share window from closing accidentally, it will no longer close when clicking outside of it. To close the window, click on the button located in the upper right corner.

Being a gradual roll-out, these improvements may be not available right after you install Windows 11 Build 22635.3420. But you can make it accessible manually with help of ViVeTool.

Enable QR code generator for Share dialog in Windows 11

  1. Navigate to this GitHub page and download the ViVeTool zip archive.
  2. Extract the app to the c:\vivetool folder for your convenience.
  3. Now open a new Terminal as administrator. In Admin Terminal, use a PowerShell or Command Prompt tab - both will do.
  4. Finally, type: c:\vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:46961347, and hit Enter.
  5. Restart the computer once you see the Successfully set feature configuration message. You are done!
