Microsoft will keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, but ends Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family program

Microsoft's Head of Gaming, Phil Spencer, has announced that Xbox and PlayStation have reached an agreement to release Call of Duty on PlayStation. It will remain available after the completion of the deal with Activision Blizzard.

The companies set the agreement for 10 years. It applies to the Call of Duty franchise only, with a possibility of extension in 2033.

In other news, Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of the Xbox Game Pass family plan. The program allowed up to five accounts to enjoy the benefits of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Existing users will receive promotional codes for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as compensation. Those will allow them to use the service for free for a certain period.

The closure of the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan is scheduled for August 15, 2023, with the ability to add new users being disabled on July 17th. Microsoft had launched it as an experiment in select countries to understand gamer preferences. It was available in Ireland, Colombia, New Zealand, Sweden, Israel, Chile, Hungary, and South Africa.
