OneDrive cloud storage is now 15 years old. To celebrate its presense on the market, Microsoft is rolling out a number of nice updates.
The service was first launched in August 2007 under the name SkyDrive. It offers file synchronization between devices and allows sharing them online. In 2013, Microsoft has rebranded the service to "OneDrive", so it got the current name. Modern OneDrive offers 5 GB of storage space free of charge. The user can get 100 GB, 1 TB, and 6 TB storage options for extra fee or as part of Office 365 subscriptions.
OneDrive is integrated into Windows starting in Windows 8. It comes bundled with all modern OS versions including Windows 10 and Windows 11. It also has mobile versions for Android and iOS.
Some notable changes it has received over years are Personal Vault and Files on-Demand.
First of all, the web version is getting an updated design that follows everything of Fluent Design.
Next, it will get a new “Home” section. It will include all the latest documents from the Microsoft 365 suite, as well as PDF files, with notes about their security.
In addition, OneDrive will get other (less significant) features. The changes will also affect the OneDrive mobile app for iOS and Android. It will also receive better integration with the Microsoft 365 office suite and Microsoft Teams.
