Microsoft is working on a built-in file and note sharing service for its Edge browser. The new feature is called "Drop". The data you are sharing via the Drop service will be synced across all your instances of Edge, regardless of the platform. E.g. a note filled in on Windows will be available on other Windows devices, along with Edge on Linux and Android running under the same Microsoft account.
There is no official announcement for the Drop feature yet. It is only available in the Canary channel to select Insiders in the US. The feature made its first appearance in Edge Canary 104. So, even if you have the most recent Canary build installed, it may not appear for you.
The Drop feature in Edge
Perhaps it utilizes the same technology as Microsoft uses for syncing your preferences, cookies, history, and passwords in Edge.
In the user interface, Drop looks like a side panel that you can open from the menu or via a button in the toolbar. It is possible to show or hide the toolbar button like you do for Math Solver, Downloads, Extensions etc.
When the Drop pane is open, you can drag-n-drop a file onto it, or quickly write a note by typing in the textbox area. The shared content will be available on all other instances of Edge you are running under the same Microsoft account.
Note that files shared via Drop Microsoft Edge will upload to OneDrive. This means it will have the same limitations, and also depends on how much free space you have in there. There is a storage space indicator in Drop settings. Also, it shows a QR code for downloading the mobile Edge version on your smartphone.
The Drop feature aims to be a simple but useful way for users to share a file or make a note without leaving the browser. Many may welcome it, as it could be a convenient tool for those who spends a lot of time in the browser.
Besides Drop, Microsoft is also working on the import feature that will be able fetch your browsing data from Chrome every time you launch Edge. Another addition to the browser is a VPN service, Secure Network. It encrypts your connection and hides your actual IP address with the one from CloudFlare.
