Windows 11 Camera App now recognizes Privacy Shutter

Microsoft has updated the built-in Windows 11 Camera app so that it now recognizes the hardware shutter. It is available on some devices, including Microsoft's very own Modern Webcam. Some laptops also have such a shutter.

Starting in version 2022.2207.29.0 of the Camera app you will see the following message if the shutter is closed.

To continue using the app, you have to open the shutter. So the app now includes a friendly reminder.

Besides the Privacy Shutter detection feature, the updated Camera app comes with a number of performance improvements on ARM64 devices. Microsoft says you should see it performing faster and better.

The app is available on the Microsoft Store here.

This new feature of the Camera app was included in Build 25182, released today to Insiders. If you are an Insider running Windows 11 in the Dev channel, upgrade your device to that build and see the camera app. If the change doesn't appear, try updating Camera from the Microsoft Store.
