Web version of PowerPoint now supports video captions and subtitles

In early 2023, Microsoft introduced a new feature to the web version of PowerPoint, allowing users to download and insert videos into presentations. Recently, the company has made further enhancements to this feature by adding support for titles and subtitles for videos.

According to Microsoft, the inclusion of captions and subtitles in presentations offers several benefits for viewers. It can assist those who speak different languages, serving as a helpful tool in such cases. Additionally, it can be beneficial for individuals with hearing impairments.

To incorporate captions and subtitles into PowerPoint videos, they must be created in the WebVTT format. Microsoft provides a support site where users can obtain guidance on generating signature files, and applications like Notepad are suitable for this task.

Once the titles and subtitles are created, they can be inserted into PowerPoint videos. Users can log into the service with their Microsoft account, open the PowerPoint file, click on "Insert," select "Video," and choose "Insert video from (device name)." Subtitles can be added using the same process.

During video playback, viewers have the option to display titles and subtitles by using a button located in the lower right corner of the video player.

According to Microsoft, multiple subtitle files can be added to a video, which is particularly useful for including different languages. To ensure proper functionality, users need to rename the file with endings like "MyClosedCaptions.en.vtt" for English or "MyClosedCaptions.es.vtt" for Spanish.

The video captioning and subtitles feature is now available to all PowerPoint for the web users.
