Update pre-download feature is coming to Xbox consoles to save your time

Microsoft is testing a new Xbox software update that will allow pre-downloading game updates. It will happen in advance, sometimes several days before their official release.

Downloaded updates in advance will allow you to start playing the game immediately upon release. The download will happen in the background, and in console's hibernation. So you don't have to specially turn on the device to get the updates fetched from the servers.

The first game that uses update pre-loading in the famous Sea of Thieves adventure. More games are expected to join this distribution pretty soon.

According to the official announcement, game developers should make some adjustments to make pre-loading work.

Besides the improved downloads of updates, the next version of the Xbox software will include the ability more just one Wi-Fi network. Currently, disconnecting from Wi-Fi requires users to re-enter their password when re-connecting, but this will no longer be necessary with this new update. The device can remember up to 10 networks.

This feature is already available to Insiders on the Alpha channel. By this June, it should become generally available.
