According to new insider information, Microsoft may be planning to release the next major update for Windows 11, internally referred as "Moment 5," early next year. This update will introduce several new features and changes, with the primary goal of ensuring compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Those include the ability to disable the news feed in Widgets and uninstall Edge, among others.
The Moment 5 update is probably scheduled for release in February or March of 2024 and will be distributed through Windows Update as a relatively small cumulative update.
Similar to previous Moment updates, Moment 5 will be distributed as a comprehensive cumulative update through Windows Update. It will most likely be included in the March 2024 Patch Tuesday release after being offered as an optional preview update towards the end of February. Although it is initially optional, Moment updates are not optional indefinitely. If not requested manually, Windows Update will eventually install the Moment 5 update automatically.
However, it will only be accessible to users who have already upgraded to Windows 11 version 23H2. If you haven't done so yet, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system to obtain the Moment 5 update.
Moment 5 is expected to be the only major update to Windows 11 in 2024. Microsoft will release a new version of Windows codenamed Hudson Valley in the fall of 2024.
