Qualcomm announced Snapdragon X processors for devices with Windows on ARM

Snapdragon X, the latest line of desktop ARM processors, has been unveiled by Qualcomm. These processors are notable for being built upon the cutting-edge Oryon cores, which Qualcomm acquired through its takeover of Nuvia earlier this year. An intriguing detail is that Nuvia was established by ex-Apple engineers who played a pivotal role in developing the highly acclaimed A-series processors used in iPhones and iPads.

If Snapdragon X manages to deliver comparable performance and battery life to Apple's M series processors, it could potentially disrupt the current balance of power in the market for lightweight, speedy, and energy-efficient laptops. Presently, Windows on ARM devices lag noticeably behind Apple's ARM solutions.

Both Snapdragon X and Apple M processors incorporate a dedicated neural processor, specifically designed to enhance the processing speed of artificial intelligence tasks. Qualcomm's Senior Vice President, Don McGuire, describes it as a remarkable advancement in performance and energy efficiency, enabling a new era of generative AI in various devices.

Similar to its predecessor Snapdragon 8cx, Snapdragon X will support 5G mobile networks. It's worth noting that none of the Apple devices equipped with M series processors currently offer 5G compatibility.
