Insiders who run Windows 11 in the Dev channel started to receive a newer Paint app. While it doesn't bring with it any drastic UI change, there is an updated properties dialog. It better fits the appearance of the OS and doesn't look aged.
The dialog appears when you press Ctrl + E or select File > Properties from the app menu. It allows adjusting image dimension, color mode, and size units. Besides the options for changing, it also show some useful stats like the file size and the time you last saved the drawning.
The updated Image Properties window has bigger spacing, a new background color that properly follows Windows 11's visual style, and modern-looking controls. You will also notice that it uses system fonts, unlike the previous one. Here are the screenshots of the old and new dialogs.
With Windows 11, Microsoft heavily redesigned the app to make it look great in this version of the OS. So today's change is expected as part of the work to polish the app.
As of the moment of this writing, the updated Image Properties window is only available to Insiders in the Dev Channel. It will take some time before it will land in the stable Windows 11.
If you aren't happy with the changes made to the app in Windows 11, you can always go back and restore the classic Windows 10-like Paint app.
