Microsoft is working on AI-powered smart window snapping in Windows 11

Microsoft has high hopes for AI and its ability to improve software. The company is actively adding artificial intelligence to many of its products. You may have heard of the AI-powered Bing and Office apps. Windows 11 is also getting some improvements in the same fashion.

The company is already testing smart window snapping. It will allow the window manager to remember user-created layouts for certain groups of apps. Then later it will be able to quickly restore the placement of apps on the screen, say, after restarting the computer. The addition will definitely appeal to users who work with several applications at the same time every day.

An internal concept that shows off the upcoming feature

In addition, the Snap Layout feature will receive support for OCR technology. This will allow you to quickly find the app you want to pin next to your screen. It will be possible to search for a window by entering a text term, phrase, or image, even if they are not present anywhere in the window of the app.

Finally, Microsoft wants to add dynamic resizing of snapped apps depending on the current window. If the user opens two windows using the 70/30 layout, then the active window will be automatically resized to 70% every time you switch between them.

The release date for this new feature is currently unknown. However, recently released Dev channel builds have corresponding velocity IDs in the Component Store. This means insiders won't have to wait long. Maybe it's just a matter of a few weeks.

  1. A.I. is too powerful already !! – I think the entire human race is about to get shafted – big time. Even with your P.C. – it takes over, and does what it wants to do, not what you want to do. Time to pull the plug!! –
