Microsoft has unveiled a major update to its Bing search engine that dramatically changes the search results page. The page will now display a detailed answer generated by artificial intelligence based on millions of sources. Next, it will list the sources that the AI used to generate the answer so you can verify the information or learn more.
Regular search results generated without the use of generative AI have moved to the right sidebar. This will be useful if you are not satisfied with the answer from the AI or prefer the traditional way of working in search engines.
According to Microsoft, this new interface combines the benefits of Bing search results with the power of large and small language models (LLM and SLM). It can accurately recognize the search query, then analyzes millions of sources of information, dynamically matches content, and forms search results in a new AI-generated layout to more effectively answer the user's query.
Microsoft continues to study the impact of AI in search on websites in terms of direct traffic and readers. The company says the number of clicks to websites remained the same as when using traditional search.
The new search results page is currently only available to a small number of Bing users.
