Windows Subsystem for Android 2301.40000.4.0 greatly improves performance on x64 and ARM

Microsoft has released a new version 2301.40000.4.0 of Windows Subsystem for Android. The new WSA includes performance improvements that increase framerate up to 50% on 64-bit processors, and up to 20% on ARM devices.

The underlying Android image is still based on Android 13, which is the latest stable OS version as of this writing. Its successor, Android 14, is still in the works, with Google recently released its first Developer Preview to the Pixel phone family.

The update incorporates security fixes available for Android, as well as generally improves the WSA platform. Here are the changes.

  • Improved audio input latency and reliability
  • Improvements to camera experience (camera metadata now exposed to camera apps)
  • Improvements to framerate performance: certain benchmarks have improved by 10%-20% on ARM and 40%-50% on x64
  • Fixed zooming out in apps using touchpad or mouse
  • Improvements to platform reliability
  • Using latest Chromium WebView to version 108
  • Synchronizing global microphone and camera privacy toggles between Windows and Android apps
  • Android 13 security updates
