With Windows 11 Build 23493, which was earlier released to Insiders, Microsoft made Windows Copilot available to everyone who runs the OS in the Dev channel. Initially, it was in A/B testing, but this has changed.
During the Build 2023 event, the company introduced Windows Copilot, an AI-powered assistant tool that is deeply integrated with the operating system. It can analyze screen content and offer recommendations based on the user's current activities and online browsing. In addition, Copilot has the ability to modify Windows settings, launch applications, and extract text from images. With these functionalities, it aims to replace Cortana as a daily personal assistant for users.
Earlier, if you weren't part of the gradual roll-out, you had to enable the Copilot feature manually.
The updated changelog for Build 23493 now states that it should be available to you without extra steps. To use Copilot, all you need now is Windows Build 23493 or higher in the Dev Channel, and Microsoft Edge version 115.0.1901.150 or higher.
In this first preview, you can ask Windows Copilot a range of questions or to take actions such as:
- “Change to dark mode.”
- “Turn on do not disturb.”
- “Take a screenshot”
- “Summarize this website” (Active tab in Microsoft Edge)
- “Write a story about a dog who lives on the moon.”
- “Make me a picture of a serene koi fishpond with lily pads.”
