Windows 11’s Automatic Super Resolution is not exclusive to Qualcomm processors

Qualcomm clarified that the Automatic Super Resolution feature for Windows 11 is a Microsoft innovation and is separate from Snapdragon Game Super Resolution technology. This indicates that the feature is not restricted to devices utilizing Qualcomm processors and could potentially be available on other platforms down the line.

As of now, Microsoft's support page specifies that Automatic Super Resolution necessitates a Snapdragon X Elite processor for operation. The functionality involves image processing being carried out on a local device through an integrated GPU and neural processor (NPU). It is worth noting that Qualcomm currently boasts the most potent NPU units in the industry.

It is expected that in the fall, AMD and Intel will present new processors with improved NPU units, which will be similar in performance to the solution from Qualcomm. Devices powered by these processors will likely be labeled Copilot+ and will have access to new AI-powered features including Recall and Automatic Super Resolution.

The Automatic Super Resolution option is designed to increase the frame rate in games by automatically reducing the rendering resolution and then scaling the image to a higher resolution using artificial intelligence. DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 based games are supported, although the results may be unpredictable in some cases. In fact, the new feature can be called an alternative to technologies such as DLSS and FSR.
