Windows 11 is receiving AI-powered Search, Generative fill and erase, and Super Resolution

Microsoft is bringing AI capabilities to significantly improve Windows Search on its new Copilot Plus PCs. Windows 11's search will now be powered by AI and offers a brand new Click to Do feature. It will also allow users to find images, emails, documents, and videos more easily. These AI features are scheduled to roll out in November.

Click to Do lets users press the Windows key and select an image or text to perform a clickable action. It analyzes everything you see on your screen and suggests useful shortcuts to quickly find, explore, edit, buy, or do other things with the selected items. The feature works across all windows, documents, images, and videos, and supports all apps.

Improved Search

Users will be able to search for images by keywords, even if those words aren’t in the photo or file name. The update will be initially available in File Explorer.

Generative Fill and Erase in Paint

Microsoft is also adding generative fill and erase features to Microsoft Paint as part of new Windows AI capabilities, expanding Cocreator functionality of the app. Users can now select areas of images to remove.

Microsoft has also updated the basic Cocreator model, which provides better and faster results. The built-in moderation system ensures that there is no explicit content in the images.

Super Resolution in Photos

This AI powered feature of the Photos app will allow you to transform your lower-resolution and older photos into high-quality images without the worry of blurriness or pixelation. You can increase the resolution by up to 8X. The process is hardware accelerated. With a powerful 40+ TOPS NPU, you can upscale your photos to 4K in seconds. Finally, you can instantly compare the processed image with the original one in the same view.
