Microsoft recently announced the end of support for the Step Recorder and Tips apps, and now another app has fallen victim to the same fate. The voice recognition engine that was first introduced back in Vista, is now deprecated in Windows 11.
The company has updated their list of features deprecated in the latest OS that now states the following.
Windows speech recognition is deprecated and is no longer being developed. This feature is being replaced with voice access. Voice access is available for Windows 11, version 22H2, or later devices.
So, if you are running Windows 11 version 22H2 or Windows 11 version 23H2, you should switch to Voice Access. The latter is more secure and has better compatibility with apps and websites. With your voice, you can do a variety of tasks, including switching between apps, running new apps and closing existing ones, and much more. It is available since 2021, initially to Insiders. Now it is generally available.
Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 11, incorporates multiple enhancements that prioritize accessibility. These additions include Voice Access, Live Captions, eye tracking, and Narrator. The company had also made a significant pledge back in 2021 to support individuals with disabilities over the next five years.
