Windows 11 Build 22635.4291 (Beta) improves Task Manager and Snipping Tool

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build 22635.4291  to insiders on Beta) channel with a number of improvements. The Snipping Tool now features screenshot autosave, Task Manager's performance has been improved, and the Settings app has been slitghly refined. There are also a few fixes for Start and Explorer.

Note: Some of the options are only available at this moment to Insiders with the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle option enabled in Settings > Windows Update.

Snipping Tool Update

A new version of the Snipping Tool (version 11.2408.15.0 and above) is available to Insiders, which adds the ability to select a folder for automatically saving screenshots and screen recordings.

To use the new feature, simply open the Snipping Tool settings and specify the desired default folder for saving files.

Task Manager

  • The design of the Disconnect and Logout dialogs has been updated to support dark theme and text scaling.
  • The Performance section now shows the type of drives.

Settings

    • Tailored Experiences has been renamed to Personalized offers in OOBE. The new setting is located under Settings > Privacy & Security > Diagnostics & Feedback. Personalized offers will allow users to opt out of having information about their devices used to improve Windows.

Fixes

General

Fixed several issues that could cause explorer.exe to crash, including an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash intermittently when using the Alt + Tab keyboard shortcut.

Start Menu:

Fixed an issue where the All Apps list might stop working correctly if you clicked or tapped a letter in the All Apps list in the Start menu.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint:

Fixed an issue where Work Folders would not sync if Defender for Endpoint was enabled.

Outlook and other encrypted email applications:

Fixed an issue where a PIN was requested every time an encrypted email was opened.

IE mode

Fixed an issue where Microsoft Edge would occasionally stop responding when using Internet Explorer mode.

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

Fixed an issue where there was a discrepancy in data between TCP_INFO_v1 and  GetPerTcpConnectionEstats . The tools used to analyze TCP connection performance are used by file synchronization services. The issue negatively impacted the accuracy of these tools.

Country and Operator Settings Asset

Updated Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles for some mobile operators.

Task Manager

Fixed an issue where Task Manager would become unresponsive when switching from a high-contrast theme to a normal theme.

Known issues

Start Menu

    • [New] After installing this build, you may notice that items in the All Apps list in Start have excessive spacing between them.

Live Captions

    • [New] Trying to use Live Subtitles will crash in this build.
