Windows 11 Build 22623.1255 (Beta) adds tabs to Notepad

Microsoft has released a pair of preview builds to Insiders in the Beta channel. Builds 22621.1255 and 22623.1255 are now available to Windows 11 22H2 with the KB5022918 patch. Build 22623.1255 includes Notepad version 11.2301.17.0 that features a tabbed user interface.

Microsoft has started the roll-out of the tabbed UI in Notepad to Windows Insiders on the Beta channel. The new feature is available in Notepad version 11.2301.17.0 or higher.

Fixes in build 22623.1255

  • Taskbar and system tray:
    • Fixed an issue where the Start menu would appear behind the taskbar when opened using the touch keyboard.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the taskbar to disappear when switching from Task View to a Win32 application icon using the tablet-optimized taskbar.
  • Task Manager:
    • Process names entered in the search box should no longer be spell-checked.
    • Fixed several issues with Narrator reading content in Task Manager.
    • Fixed an issue where drop-downs in app settings might not match the currently selected theme.
    • Now, when you search on the Application History page, the results will not suddenly disappear.
    • If you open the "Default Start Page" drop-down in settings, clicking the Task Manager window should make the drop-down disappear now.
