In the current version of Windows Update shipped with Windows 10, resuming the update download process is not possible. The operating system will force you to restart the download from the beginning later. The situation can be very frustrating when you are on a slow connection or if your data plan is limited. Also, the file size for cumulative and feature updates (build upgrade packages) is very huge. It can be several gigabytes in size.
The Redmond software giant is aware about this issue. They are planning improvements that will allow users to resume interrupted downloads instead of starting over.
Unfortunately, it is not known yet when exactly this useful feature will reach the stable (production) branch of Windows 10. Anyway, the upcoming change will be a great addition. Along with delta updates (UUP), it should improve the reliability and usability of Windows Update in Windows 10.
This is good news for every Windows 10 user. If you are traveling, connected to a slow Wi-Fi, or your device's battery got discharged in the middle of updating, you won't run into the update hell any more.
