Windows 10 build 10565 + VirtualBox: Fix broken start menu and Settings

In my yesterday's article, I mentioned that Windows 10 build 10565 does not work properly in VirtualBox. The Start menu was broken, transparent and cannot render tiles and icons. Here is a fix I discovered.
Here is the broken Start menu:

To get Windows 10 build 10565 working correctly in VirtualBox, you need to do the following:

  1. Create a new VirtualBox machine and set its type to Windows 10.
  2. Change the settings as mentioned in the following article: How to get VirtualBox video driver working in Windows 10 build 10041.
  3. Install Windows 10.
  4. Install VirtualBox Additions.
  5. Turn off your virtual machine.
  6. Go to virtual machine properties and disable 2D and 3D acceleration in the Display options page:

Once this is done, start the VM. You will get a working Start menu and Settings. I didn't notice any side effects after doing this change.

  1. win-10 in virtualbox:
did not notice the problem with the startmenu for running win-10 as guest under ubuntu 15.10 on a dell e6500 (3 D acceleration enabled).

However, the Skype video app does not work correctly. May be caused by too slow hardware, though? On the other hand, the desktop Skype client works properly. Any comments for that?
