Winaero Tweaker 0.9 is out. This release comes with a huge number of fixes and new features. Let's review them.

New Features of Winaero Tweaker 0.9

Context menus

The ability to remove the Include in library context menu command:

You can add the Run with priority context menu to File Explorer.

You can add the Shut Down context menu to the Desktop to save your time (and avoid unwanted apps auto-starting if you are running Fall Creators Update).

You can add the Power Options context menu to the Desktop:

The ability to add the Settings context menu to the Desktop in Windows 10:

The App Mode context menu: As you may already know, Windows 10 comes with two color schemes for Store apps. The default one is light, but there is also a darker one. You can add a special context menu to switch between them quickly.

RDP

You can change the default RDP port to what you want quickly. Use the following option.

Hibernation

With Winaero Tweaker 0.9, you can manage hibernation options in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. You can disable the hibernation feature, shrink the hibernation file to its minimal size or set it to a custom size. Also, you can disable hibernation but keep Fast Startup. The option can be found under Behavior\Hibernation.

File Explorer & Control Panel

You can quickly hide a drive from appearing in File Explorer.

Using Winaero Tweaker, you can unlock the ability to pin more than 3 contacts to the taskbar. The option can be found under Desktop & Taskbar\Pin More Contacts to Taskbar.

For your convenience, you can add the "Personalization" link back to the Control Panel. You'll be able to add both kinds of Personalization links - the Settings app and the classic applet. This option can be found under Settings & Control Panel\Add Personalization.

Other changes

You can set the desired default action for the classic Shut Down Windows dialog.

You can enable Windows Installer in Safe Mode. This will allow uninstalling apps which were installed from an MSI package.

Finally, you can enable the Emoji Panel (Emoji Picker) for all languages in Windows 10. Use the option Behavior\Enable Emoji Picker.

  1. It is possible to implement the launch after (portable) installation of the program to run, so as not to waste additional time not starting.
P.s. It is a pity that for a long time the developer has no opportunity to localize the program. At least for tweaks additional items of the context menu.

  2. For the “Hibernation” option, I would like to see an automatic calculation of the numerical equivalent when specifying percentages. For example: you write 40%. The program checks that RAM is now 10GB, and writes to the right of the edited field (4GB) / (about 4GB).

  3. Background location in win7 get error 800A000D (string 15, symbol 1):
    http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/Logon/code/code_800A000D.htm
I do not know what’s going wrong

  4. I said to change the commenting section instead you deleted my comment, its very easy to implement. If you have other problem do whatever you want and you can delete this comment too not kidding you can really delete this comment, i have no problem this is only to inform you.
    That’s it.

    1. OK. I am sorry for that.
I am not going to change the comment system on the blog. I have a number of reasons for that.

  5. In the latest version there is a so-called bug in the context menu add control panel should write small icons and write big icons please correct

  6. Nice update, new features are fantastic. Just one issue ive noticed so far, changing font size or taskbar has resulted in the clock : symbol is now just a small square. Can fix in an update ?

    thanks

  7. Would it be possible in the next update to include a tweak to enable access to the classic Set your default Programs, Associate file types, etc in the control panel? right now the control panel has the Default Programs applet but the links inside that applet go to the modern settings page for those items.

  8. Hello Sergey, there’s some discussion about the prominent recommendation at the top of the page (“Click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system performance”. It’s supposedly malware software, not a simple ad. It’d be nice if we could hear your opinion, thanks. If that software is really malware, should it be promoted right next to Winaero Tweaker?

    1. There is no such an option at the moment of this writing.
What is your system? You are the first who are unhappy with the font.
What is your DPI and screen resolution?

      1. My computer OS is Windows 8.1, screen 23″ 1920×980. But I have poor eyesight. I increased the font size everywhere I could. Current font size in Winaero Tweaker is too small for me.

  9. I’m finally building my brand new desktop and will be installing Winaero Tweaker 0.9 first thing. An incredible product from what I’ve read. In a previous response, you told me that I could also install Classic Shell. Another product I’ve looked at is O&O Shutup10: Free antispy tool for Windows 10. Is O&O redundant? Does it add anything to Winaero Tweaker? Should I not bother installing it in addition to Winaero Tweaker, or is there no harm? Thanks for your great work.

  10. Biggest headache is that after a big win 10 update, it wipes these settings I have for “Other fonts you can change.” on a friends laptop . . . I think the OS should be the latest, Win 10, Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.64)

I had them at the size indicated, and in bold text.

Can’t these be in a “Reg” file, so I just have to click that, and Restart, to get them back?

Why is it an “.ini” file? I have to import that . . . It’s not clickable.

Would be good if it asked me to Export my initial Reg file / Say to do my changes / Then prompt me to Export Reg file with the changes

The Win update even zaps the ICC Profile, which is supposed to maintain your settings:

    Using ICC Profiles in Windows . . . https://pcmonitors.info/articles/using-icc-profiles-in-windows/

Ask me anything / “Display” . . . Where did this go? . . . Control Panel / Display / Adjust resolution / Advanced settings

Search for “Color Management” – select monitor from the drop down / [check] Use my settings for this device / Close

Advanced Appearance Settings / System Font . . . Do not change it here

    The default is Segoe UI

1.) I changed it to Liberation Sans . . . there is no option to select BOLD, 11 pt
At first glance, you see that it changes colons in the clock to little boxes

2.) Later, you see that you can’t see X’s and arrows to use in windows, like in e-mail
It’s ok to change the font on all the other possibilities, though (next)

Advanced Appearance Settings / “Other fonts you can change”
In order from small to larger: Segoe UI / Liberation Sans / Verdana
Below, the first number is the default. If it can’t be 12 pt, the necessary size is stated . . . then the reason

    Regular, 9 … 11 pt … Icons … 12 is too big for Properties/Previous Version
    Regular, 9 … 12 pt … Menus

    Regular, 9 … 10 pt … Message Font
    … … … … … … … 11 works for SeaMonkey / E-Mail / Server Settings / Advanced
    … … … … … … … but 11 is too big for the AdwCleaner menu

    Regular, 9 … 12 pt … Statusbar Font
    Regular, 9 … 12 pt … Window Title Bars

APPLY CHANGES / I WILL DO IT LATER / AFTER EACH OF THESE
COULD THIS BE MADE EASIER SOMEHOW?
LIKE, DO ALL YOUR CHANGES, THEN APPLY
THEN IF A RESTART IS NEEDED, IT SAYS SO?

Boot and Logon / Disable Lock Screen / [check] Disable Lock Screen
. . . IT DOES NOT HOLD THIS SETTING
    . . . TOOLS / EXPORT / THIS GETS EXPORTED, THOUGH (1 OF ONLY 2)

Desktop and Taskbar / Show seconds on Taskbar Clock / [check] Show seconds on Taskbar Clock
. . . SET IN “7+ Taskbar Tweaker”, AND HERE
. . . AM I SEEING A CHECK MARK HERE, BECAUSE OF 7+ TASKBAR TWEAKER?
. . . IS THAT WHY IT DOESN’T GET EXPORTED?
Desktop and Taskbar / Taskbar Thumbnails / [check] Disable thumbnails completely

Privacy / Disable Telemetry / [check] Disable Telemetry
    . . . TOOLS / EXPORT / THIS GETS EXPORTED (2 OF ONLY 2)

  11. Sorry to see that ‘Disable reboot after updates’ tweak no longer works for build 1709. Any chance of a workaround? I’ve tried changing Active Hours but Windows ignores this. I’ve tried going through Update Orchestrator in Task Scheduler but my system says that I don’t have permission to disable the Reboot option.

  12. Please add dpi scaling support for each monitor… I’d like to go sub 100 for other monitors to allow more space – I keep my 4k monitor at 100% and the others I’d like to reduce to 50% or so…

  13. Any way to reenable the “Insert” Key’s overwrite functionality? I can’t seem to find much about it online to the point that people don’t even seem to realise it doesn’t work anymore. I’ve needed to use it about six times in the past two days and I’m really missing that ability now. Seems a weird thing to take out.

  14. I have a surface pro 3 after the creators update we are not able to highlight in certain apps without holding down the button on the pen. As I do a lot of highlighting and research I find this has really slowed work down. Is there some way to be able to change that. There is a lot of us with the same problem. Your help on this would be much appreciated. Love the new Winaero 0.9. Thanks

  15. Hi Sergey,

you did a great job. Thank you very much!

I have got a question concerning Winaereo Tweaker:
Is it possible to easily reactivate the settings made by Winaero Tweaker after an Windows-Update?
Everytime after one of these “big” Updates like the Fall Creators Update, settings such as my favorite fonts have been overwritten and I have to set up everything new.
    Is there any “one click”-solution?
Or have I overlooked a solution which already exists within Winaero Tweaker?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards
    WoDi

    1. I see the following One click solution as of this writing.
      1. Made your changes.
      2. Export tweaks.
      3. Install some “harsh” updates.
      4. Import your tweaks.

Note: There is a bug in import which prevents “open cmd here as administrator” from re-appearing in the context menu. It is already fixed in the upcoming version.

  16. Всё классно, но хотелось бы хоть где-то видеть даты релизов.
Мне как новому пользователю непонятно, новая версия выпущена вчера, или несколько лет назад.

  17. I had to ask. Is this software free? I do not mean free download, I mean free to use? (no trial or anything like that)

  18. nice thank you
myabe if possible add auto hide taskbar in context menu and maybe with shortcuts too ^^

  19. Hi Sergey,

I’m now running WT v 0.9.0.0 on Win10 1803-Build 17133.1 but under “System Information”, it shows” OS : Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 64 bit” …..
Isn’t Winaero Tweaker v0.9.0.0 yet fully compatible with the Spring Creators Update ?

    Thank you ! :-)

    1. The dev version is already updated, but never released. I am running out of time to finish it. I will try to speed up the process.

  20. Great desktop program Sergey! The only think I think is missing is fluent design. Take your time and it will look awesome! <3
