In addition to the Split View feature, which was recently released to Insiders, Microsoft is working on a couple of new features, including system tray support for the UWP (Store) app.
A new announcement reveals the following changes in the upcoming version of the Skype for Windows 10 app.
We're working to bring Skype for Windows 10 to the system tray! While it's not out the door quite yet, you can expect the new system tray icon will:
- Be displayed whenever Skype is running
- Show sign-in and sign out state
- Show a badge for any unread messages
- Give the option to go to settings, open the app and sign in quickly from the right click menu.
We hope you are just as excited about this feature as we are! We will let you know as soon as it's released!
The system tray icon feature should be welcomed by users of the modern Skype app. It is one of the most requested features.
Skype for Windows 10 is available to Insiders from the Store. If you are a Windows Insider and have automatic updates enabled in the Windows Store, this update should already be installed on your device. If not, head to its page in the Store and hit the update button. If you don't have Skype installed, you can also grab it from there.
