Opera GX is the latest Chromium browser to hit Microsoft Store

This year, Microsoft introduced a new set of rules for the Microsoft Store. In yet another effort to make the Microsoft Store a single trusted source of apps on Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft allowed publishing third-party browsers, stores, and unpackaged apps. Besides, developers are now free to use their own content delivery networks and payment systems without giving Microsoft a cut (the new fee policies do not apply to games).

Developers welcomed the new changes in the Microsoft Store. Users can already download various popular apps, including different browsers. Although Chrome is still missing in the Microsoft Store, you can get Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Yandex Browser. Now Opera GX joins the list of third-party browsers available in the Microsoft Store.

Opera GX is a browser “built for gamers.” Apart from offering “gaming” design, Opera GX features under-the-hood improvements to reduce resource consumption. Users can set CPU, RAM, and network limiters to ensure games get all the power for maximum FPS. There are also integrations with Discord, Twitch, Razer Chroma, and Corsair iCUE. Similar to the regular Opera browser, Opera GX offers a built-in VPN and ad-blocker.

You can get Opera GX from the Microsoft Store using search. No direct link because the new Microsoft Store app does not display the share button for apps with custom CDNs. The browser is also available on the official website if you prefer the classic way of getting it.

With more browsers joining the Microsoft Store, users no longer need to open Edge only to download the browser they need. That means we can finally kill the old “Edge/Internet Explorer—a browser for downloading browsers” joke.
