Microsoft released out-of-band patches to fix VPN and Hyper-V issues

Microsoft has released out-of-band updates for affected Windows versions of Windows. They resolve various problems caused by Cumulative Updates issued on January 11, 2022.

As you may remember, January Cumulative Updates caused several annoying issues. Those include non-working VPN, domain controller boot loops on Windows Server, and broken Hyper-V, and more

Today's update fixes issues related to VPN connections, restarting Windows Server domain controllers, crashes when starting virtual machines, and the inability to mount removable media formatted in ReFS.

The list of new patches looks as follows.

Windows 10

• Windows 10 (version 1909), Windows Server (version 1909) -  KB5010792 (OS Build 18363.2039). Microsoft Update Catalog.
• Windows 10 (version 1607), Windows Server 2016  - KB5010790 (OS Build 14393.4889). Microsoft Update Catalog.
• Windows 10 (version 1507)  - KB5010789 (OS Build 10240.19179). Microsoft Update Catalog.

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

• Windows 7 SP1  - KB5010798 ;  Microsoft Update Catalog.
• Windows Server 2008 SP2  -  KB5010799 ;  Microsoft Update Catalog.

Updates are optional and therefore will not be installed automatically. To get them, you will need to manually go to Windows Update and check for updates. Alternatively, you can go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website and download them manually.
