Microsoft is hosting an education-focused event on November 9

Microsoft Educaton Event

On November 9, 2021, Microsoft is hosting an education-focused event where the company plans to reveal "new technology from Microsoft Education." The event's description is available on the news.microsoft.com website, and it says the following:

"Join us at 9 AM PT on Tuesday, November 9, as we share an inside look at the latest tech solutions while examining gaps in learning left by the pandemic. Hear from Microsoft partners, schools leaders and a few special guests, and lear about new and existing technology from Microsoft Education."

If you are a regular customer, do not expect large-scale announcements or big reveals. Microsoft has already conducted its flagship Surface event in September 2021. Back then, the company showed Surface Duo 2, Surface Studio Laptop, Surface Pro 8, and a refreshed Surface Pro X.

Microsoft may still show a new addition to the Surface family. According to a recently published report from WC, Microsoft is working on a new bare-bones, cheap Surface Laptop for the education market, developed under the "Tenjin" codename.

Surface "Tenjin"—or Surface "Laptop SE"—will rival cheap Chromebooks and offer a no-frills plastic chassis, low-end 11-inch display, full-sized keyboard, and the Intel Celeron N4120 CPU paired with up to 8GB of RAM. Out-of-box, Surface "Tenjin" will run Windows 11 SE: a new SKU tailored for the education market's needs. Windows 11 SE reportedly contains multiple optimizations and enhancements to run smoothly on low-end hardware.

Price-wise, Surface "Tenjin" should land below the recently announced Surface Laptop Go, which costs $549 for the base configuration with an Intel Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage.

Naturally, Microsoft did not comment on rumors about Surface "Laptop SE," aka "Tenjin," so it remains unknown whether we will see a new Surface computer at the event on November 9, 2021. If you are curious about what Microsoft has in store for the education market, watch the event live on the official page. It kicks off at 9 AM PT time.
