Microsoft has announced the release of the second-generation Surface Hub 2S

This new device is designed for modern workplaces and is a collaborative computing device that can be used for video conferencing, digital whiteboarding, and other collaborative activities. The Surface Hub 2S has a 50-inch & 85-inch 4K+ resolution display that can be rotated between portrait and landscape modes. The second generation of Surface Hub 2S will be released in 2023 along with a new version of Windows dubbed "Teams Rooms on Windows".

The device can be used as a dedicated collaboration device in Microsoft Teams meetings. Here are some of the key features of Surface Hub 2S as a Teams Rooms device:

1. Seamless integration: The Surface Hub 2S integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Teams, allowing users to join meetings with a single tap and access Teams features like chat, file sharing, and more.

2. Enhanced meeting experience: The device is designed to enhance the meeting experience, with features like a 4K+ resolution display, high-quality speakers and microphones, and a wide angle camera.

3. Easy setup and management: Richer functionality for Surface Hub 2S in Microsoft Teams Admin Center and Pro Management Portal consistent with other Teams Room devices – along with Microsoft Intune and classic management options with System Center Manager (SCCM).

4. More productive meetings: The Surface Hub 2S is designed to make meetings more productive, with features like digital whiteboarding, touch and ink support, and the ability to collaborate with remote participants. The latest Teams Rooms features like Front Row, Chat, and more will come to Surface Hub 2S without delay.

Overall, the Surface Hub 2S as a Teams Rooms device is a powerful collaboration tool for modern workplaces, providing seamless integration with Microsoft Teams, an enhanced meeting experience, and easy setup and management.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft was preparing to release a new Surface Hub 2S cartridge, known as Upward. The  second-generation Surface Hub 2S appears to be that cartridge, which is rumored to come with an Intel 11th-generation chip. However, it is not yet clear if Microsoft intends to sell the new cartridge as a standalone upgrade for existing Surface Hub 2S users.

Microsoft also noted that the first generation of the Surface Hub 2S will be supported until October 14, 2025. This is the day support for Windows Teams OS will end. Unfortunately, the new version of Teams Rooms on Windows will only be available for the second generation Surface Hub 2S.
