The most notable change in Microsoft Edge 91 is automatic HTTPS switching. The browser will automatically use encrypted protocol for better security. Keep in mind that that feature is off by default, and it is currently hidden behind an experimental flag on the edge://flags#edge-automatic-https page. Also, forcing HTTPS by default may end up in connection errors on many websites.

As for other improvements, you can now disable the title bar when you turn on vertical tabs. If you have several Microsoft Edge windows, you can now switch between vertical and regular tabs on all windows using a dedicated button in Settings.

Finally, Microsoft Edge can now automatically open compatible websites in Immersive Reader, but you need to enable a separate flag in the edge://flags section first.

Besides several minor new features, Microsoft Edge 91 contains dozens of different bug fixes and improvements. If you are curious about the public release of Edge 91, it is due to arrive on the week of July 22, 2021.

Microsoft releases major updates for the Beta channel every six weeks, similar to how the company currently ships stable releases. This September, Microsoft plans to switch the stable channel from a six-week to four-week schedule.
