Microsoft announces Office 2019 Preview for commercial customers

Microsoft has announced Office 2019 Commercial Preview, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, Project, Visio and OneNote for Windows 10. The Redmond software giant is also about to release preview versions of Office 2019 for Mac, Exchange 2019, SharePoint 2019, Project Server 2019, and Skype for Business 2019 soon. Office 2019 targets enterprise customers which are not ready for cloud solutions like Office 365.

From the official announcement:

Office 2019 delivers new features to help end users create amazing content in less time. Updates include new and improved inking features across the apps, like the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, and tilt effects; more powerful data analysis in Excel, like new formulas, new charts, and Power BI integration; and sophisticated presentation features in PowerPoint, like Morph and Zoom. These features are already included in Office 365 ProPlus but are not available in Office 2016. For a longer list of the new end-user features, see the FAQs.

Office 2019 will include Office 365 subscriber-only features which were not available to Office 2016 users. These include improved inking features, new animation features in PowerPoint including the morph transition and zoom features, and new formulas and charts in Excel for data analysis.

Outlook is getting a new streamlined appearance . Word is expected to get LaTeX syntax support for equation editing. The Insights feature is expected in Word and Excel.

Visio will once again get the ability to create a database model from an existing database. PowerPoint may also get Office Mix functionality.

These are all Office 365 features which were exclusive to subscribers. However, no new features will be added to Office 2019 post-release as this is a perpetually licensed version, so it will receive only security and bug fixes."

The final version will arrive in the second half of 2019.

Office 2019 will require you to upgrade to Windows 10.

Microsoft has discontinued releasing MSI packages for their Office apps starting with this generation of the Office suite. Instead, the apps will be packaged using Click-to-Run technology.
