Microsoft adds more products to the Defender family

The Redmond software giant has expanded the 'Microsoft Defender' brand to more products. It now incorporates Microsoft 365 Defender and Azure Defender.

With this change, Microsoft Threat Protection is now renamed to Microsoft 365 Defender, Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection is now known as Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is the new name for Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection. Finally, there is Microsoft Defender for Identity, which was (previously named as  Azure Advanced Threat Protection. All the products will be included in the Microsoft 365 Defender product line.

Similarly, the Azure Defender product line emerges the following.

  • Azure Defender for Servers (earlier known as Azure Security Center Standard Edition)
  • Azure Defender for IoT (earlier known as  Azure Security Center for IoT)
  • Azure Defender for SQL (earlier known as  Advanced Threat Protection for SQL)

The change was announced during Ignite 2020. Microsoft said that they unify solutions across Microsoft 365 security and Azure security to deliver comprehensive extended detection and response (XDR).
